Dear MOE,

I refer to the letter of appointment (EDUN N03-51-178) stating that i am required to start service on the 18th June 2012. A few weeks back, i receive a call from MOE stating that there was an insufficient vacancies in NIE thus delaying my entrance into NIE to next year. The officer spoken and said of an email will be send to me however, till now, i had not receive anything. 

There are a few issues which i hope MOE could clarify with me

1) What is the status of my application, is it true that i am required to wait a year for admission into NIE?

2) If a year wait is necessary, salary wise, am i being paid as untrained teacher for the entire 2 years (1 year waiting in a school, 1 year in NIE). As compared to others who is able to be admitted this year itself, will be paid untrained teacher salary for 1 year in NIE only.

3) Should delay of 1 year be implemented upon me, what are the compensations i would receive for being delayed for a year?

4) When will we be informed on the school which we will be placed in.

As untrained teachers’ performance are not graded in schools / NIE, untrained teachers will be entitled to a merit increment quantum of a ‘C’ (i.e. average) performer.

Officers can make use of this period to experience the realities of being a teacher and to further affirm their suitability for the teaching profession in the long run and better prepare themselves for the context of NIE training in future. Thank you.

CHANGE OF ASSUMPTION OF DUTY DATE

Welcome to the teaching fraternity!

2.            We are heartened that you have chosen to join the teaching profession and believe that you are all ready to embark on this new career. Given the limited vacancies available at NIE, we regret to inform you that your assumption of duty date has been deferred to 30 Jul 12. With the new assumption of duty date of 30 Jul 12, you would be deployed to a school as an untrained teacher until the next available NIE intake.

3.            We hope that you can make use of this time to affirm your suitability for the teaching profession in the long run and better prepare yourself for the NIE training in future. Officers who meet the admission criteria (i.e. recommendation by school for NIE admission) for teacher training programme at NIE will be considered for the next available NIE intake in January 2013* or July 2013, subject to vacancies and availability of subject combinations offered then. 

*The list of subject combinations available for January intake is comparatively fewer than a July intake.

Dear Ms Yap,

By default, i received the notification of acceptance from MOE via hotmail, i did not expect that emails had been sent to my gmail instead. It is through the email reply received from Miss Joreen Chew that i realized that Vital had been sending me emails into my gmail instead of my hotmail account. Upon reading the emails received in my gmail, I understood the situation.
I have been looking forward to entering NIE in 2012. However, it is the fact that no vacancies in NIE is possible this semester. After much consideration regarding the time delay and the compensation to this delay, I realized that i am unable to accept the arrangement made. It was stated clearly in the emails that my admission to NIE is based on the vacancies, which implies that should no vacancies be available, 2 years delay before NIE admission may be possible though. In addition, i would like to perform my duties with a recognized status instead of being untrained for an unknown length of years.
Considering all the factors as well as my targeted personal achievements, i would like to give up the opportunity for this teaching post. I am thankful for the effort in processing my application and I apologize for the inconvenience caused on your end.
